Courses For CPR & First Aid Training in Calgary
COVID-19 Update/Training Options
As Provinces slowly start to resume operations they feel that can safely return to business, Canadian Red Cross recommendations are to follow the Public Health Agency guidelines and policies to help decide a time to resume training safely. In Alberta, Order 07-2020 prohibits gatherings of more than 15 people, including instructors and any support staff.
Accordingly, we have made the decision to commence in-class training effective June 1, 2020. We will implement Canadian Red Cross COVID-19 Guidelines to inform our training and administration protocols. Some of those are listed below:
Registration
- Stay home if they have any symptoms of illness prior to class. Accommodation for participants wishing to reschedule due to illness will be availed.
- Participants will be required to wear a face mask to enter the classroom and complete training. Masks will be provided. If participants are unable to wear a face covering to their class, they will not be admitted into the class and must reschedule.
Pre-Screening
- Before admittance into the class: All participants will be asked to determine if they have been ill or have had any signs of illness within the last 24 hours (fever, cough, breathing difficulties/shortness of breath, or other symptoms), or been in contact with someone who is ill.
- Participants who have pre-existing conditions (e.g., allergies causing sneezing) will be discouraged from attending training. This extra due diligence ensures all participants in the course can feel secure.
Classroom training equipment protocols
- All non-disposable equipment and mannequins used during the class will be cleaned prior to student use.
- All disposable materials will be provided for participant's individual use, including gloves, bandages, etc.
- Rigour in sanitization protocols will be maintained for all equipment and props used during class.
Classroom training set up and standards
- Instructors and participants must wear face coverings during class and while in the facility.
- There will be a minimum 2 meters or six feet of separation (when possible) between students and between students and Instructors, with markings on floors to assist people to maintain social distancing. This distance will be relaxed only if all participants and the Instructor are wearing procedural masks (not homemade masks).
- Every student must wear gloves during all skill practices and assessment scenarios. Students have to change gloves frequently between skills and scenarios. Gloves should not be reused.
- Every student must use a pocket mask with single-use one-way valve (one-way valves should be disposed after each participant and not cleaned) when giving rescue breaths on mannequins.
- Only if it is 100% unavoidable, skills are to be practiced and/or demonstrated using mannequins or other inanimate training aids. If skills must be done on participants, a mask and gloves must always be worn. Considerations can be made for family members who live in the same household to work together.
- Equipment ratios: A 1:1 student-to-equipment ratio will apply for all training procedures including use of mannequins and AED training device
- Hand hygiene will be required to be performed at frequent times by all participants and Instructors
- The total number of individuals within a classroom including the number of participants and Instructors must meet the provincial requirements for group gatherings as well as meeting the spacing required for social distancing. Health Education Inc. will maintain a class size of 10 students and 1 instructor.
Your safety and comfort is our priority.
